Split Pea and Ham Soup
Instructions
  1. Rinse the split peas.
  2. Wash the split peas in warm water with 1 teaspoon Bicarb.Soda.
  3. Rinse again.
  4. Soak the split peas in water, in the refrigerator, for 6 hours or overnight.
  5. Drain and rinse again.
  6. Boil and simmer all ingredients for 2 to 3 hours, until tender and the meat is falling away from the bones.
  7. Allow to cool enough to remove bones if used.
  8. Remove the bay leaves.
  9. Blend soup mixture or push through a sieve for a creamy soup.
    Creamy Pea and Ham Soup
  10. Remove meat from bone and add to blended soup mixture.
  11. Return soup to the stove and bring to the boil.
  12. Season as desired.
  13. Ladle soup into bowls and serve with crusty bread slices or rolls.
